Hawaiian Wildfires of 2023
In early August 2023, a series of wildfires broke out predominantly on the island of Maui. The wind-driven fires prompted evacuations and caused widespread damage.
The town of Lahaina on Maui’s northwest coast lost at least 101 people, many of them being people who were personally known to their Royal Highnesses.

Without hesitation, on 22nd August 2023, Prince Darrick flew to Maui and volunteered his services. His Royal Highness being a professional chef, immediately began working with the ‘World Kitchen’. This is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Spanish Chef, Jose Andres to feed people in need. He cooked around the clock to ensure that the people of Lahaina were fed.

His Royal Highness was well received by the Hawaiian people. They were especially pleased and grateful that an Ali’I Nui was there supporting them and ensuring that they were all being cared for.
In addition, the Kamakahelei Foundation also raised money for the Maui Strong Fund which is under the umbrella of the Hawaii Community Foundation. They have been providing food and necessities to the people of Lahaina.
"People have lost not only their homes but practically all their belongings and most people have nothing except what they had on when all this happened."
"The Prince is known there, gave his time and his love to his people. He served his people which is what he is supposed to do as an Ali'i and the people thanked him for being there with them. The tears, the hugs, the prayers, the words of encouragement and the promise to help."
- HRH Princess Anna.
The needs of the people will be ongoing as they attempt to rebuild their lives.
